Mississinawa Valley softball team loses high-scoring games to Lehman Catholic

UNION CITY – The Mississinawa Valley softball team lost a pair of high-scoring games to Lehman Catholic on Saturday, falling 13-11 and 19-17.

In game one both teams scored two runs in the first inning and five in the second for a 7-7 tie. Lehman scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings while Mississinawa added two both innings for an 11-9 MV lead. However, Lehman scored four runs in the seventh to win by two, 13-11.

Mississinawa Valley had nine hits and four errors, and Lehman had 10 hits and one error.

Paxton Scholl went 3-for-4 with a walk, four stolen bases, three runs and three RBIs. Leslie Dirksen was 2-for-5 with a double, a RBI and three runs. Taydem Elson was 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, a RBI and two runs.

Bailey Johnson went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Kinsie Blocher was 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a RBI. Makayla Coning went 1-for-4 with a walk and a RBI. Grace Livingston walked and scored a run.

Scholl was charged with the loss as she pitched six innings, allowing 10 earned runs and one unearned run on nine hits, seven walks and five strikeouts. Dirksen pitched an inning, allowing two unearned runs on one hit, one walk and one strikeout.

MV lost in extra innings in game two.

Both teams scored once in the first. Mississinawa took a 4-1 lead in the third, but then Lehman took a 9-4 lead in the fourth. After both teams scored once in the fifth, Lehman scored one and Mississinawa Valley scored eight in the sixth for a 13-11 MV lead.

Lehman went up 15-13 in the top of the seventh, but MV scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to force extra innings. In the 10th Lehman scored four and MV scored two for a 19-17 final score.

Lehman had 26 hits in the game while Mississinawa Valley had 18. Both teams committed three errors.

Elson went 3-for-6 with two home runs, a double, four runs and six RBIs in game two. Blocher was 3-for-6 with a home run, a run and three RBIs. Dirksen went 3-for-4 with two walks, a RBI and three runs. Conin was 3-for-6 with two runs.

Scholl was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run. Livingston went 2-for-6 with two RBIs and a run. Johnson went 1-for-7 and scored three runs. Cassie Emrick was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Trinity Konwiczka was hit by a pitch, drove in a run and scored a run.

Dirksen pitched the complete 10 innings, allowing 11 earned runs and eight unearned runs on 26 hits, one walk and nine strikeouts.
