Versailles loses to Northwestern in the 2nd round of the OHSAA softball tournament

SPRINGFIELD – Versailles lost 6-2 to Northwestern in the second round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association softball tournament on Wednesday.

Northwestern led throughout the game, scoring one run in the first inning, one in the third and four in the sixth to hold a 6-0 advantage going into the seventh.

Versailles then scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh. Brynna Blakeley reached on an error and Kami McEldowney singled to put two runners on base with one out. Sarah Gigandet then singled to drive in Blakeley and put Versailles on the scoreboard. Hailey McEldowney then hit a sacrifice grounder to score Kami McEldowney, making it 6-2 before Northwestern recorded the game’s final out.

Both Versailles and Northwestern had 10 hits in Wednesday’s game. However, Versailles committed five errors while Northwestern only had one.

Kami McEldowney led the Versailles offense by going 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run. Morgan Heitkamp went 2-for-3. Cori Lawrence was 2-for-4.

Hailey McEldowney went 1-for-4 with a RBI. Gigandet and Kristin Langston both were 1-for-4. Blakeley scored a run.

Lauren Heitkamp pitched the complete game, allowing two earned runs and four unearned runs on 10 hits and two walks.
