Greenville softball team sweeps doubleheader vs. Tinora

GREENVILLE – The Greenville softball team swept a doubleheader against Tinora on Saturday, winning 11-8 and 10-4.

In the opening game Greenville took a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Tinora took a 4-3 lead with one run in the second and two in the third, but Greenville scored three in the bottom of the fourth to lead 6-4. Tinora scored one in the fourth inning, and Greenville added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to make it 10-5. Tinora scored three runs and Greenville scored one in the sixth for the 11-8 final score.

Greenville had 15 hits and three errors in the game. Tinora had 14 hits and two errors.

Ashton Kester went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs. Cassie Cromwell was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Karsyn Shaffer was 2-for-4 with a double and scored three runs.

Alli Hill was 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs. Jazzlyn Petry was 2-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run. Sydney Grote was 2-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. Logan Tabler went 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run. Makayla Hanes was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Allison Minnich earned the win as she pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five unearned runs on 10 hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. Grote pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits, no walks and no strikeouts.

Greenville then won the second game of the doubleheader 10-4.

After Tinora scored a run in the top of the second, Greenville scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 2-1. Tinora regained the lead with two runs in the top of the third, but Greenville scored four in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to lead 10-3. Tinora scored the game’s final run in the seventh inning.

Greenville out-hit Tinora 11 to 10 in the game. Both teams committed two errors.

Lani Shilt went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, a RBI and a run. Cromwell was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run. Shaffer went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two RBIs. Tabler was 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a three runs.

Hanes went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs. Kester went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Grote and Hill both were 1-for-4 and scored a run. Petry was 1-for-4. Tess McClure scored a run.

Grote pitched the complete game, allowing two earned runs and two unearned runs on 10 hits, five walks and four strikeouts.

Greenville improve to 22-6 with Saturday’s wins.
