Brandon Sheppard, Jonathan Davenport win openers at Eldora’s Dream

ROSSBURG – The campers and tents packed Eldora and the weather held off to open the 22nd Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway Thursday night.

Thursday’s race was in honor of Earl Baltes, the founder of the race track who died at age 93 in March 2015.

In heat one of the UMP Late Models 17M Dale McDowell, 3S of Brian Shirley and the 1G of Devin Gilpin took the top three places.

Heat two the 39 of Tim McCreadie, 157 of Mike Marlar and 20 of Jimmy Owens placed in the top three spots.

Heat three had 21H Robby Hensley, 21 Billy Moyer and 99M of Devin Mora place in the top three.

In heat four there was a yellow flag before the first lap was even finished and another on lap eight. The 15F Steve Francis, 1 Josh Richards, and 32P of Bobby Pierce finished in the top three spots.

In heat five the 7B Jeff Babcock, B5 Brandon Sheppard and 18 of Shannon Babb were the top three.

Heat six saw a yellow on lap one, two and six. The 6 of Jonathan Davenport, 21B of Chris Brown and the 4G of Kody Evans finished top three.

Heat seven the yellow came out on lap one. The 97 of Michael Chilton, 75P Terry Phillips and 95J of Jerry Bowersock were the top three.

Heat eight 15L of Darrell Lanigan, C9 of Steve Casebolt and 15 of Jon Henry were the top three.

In the B Feature, which consisted of 12 laps, 101 Casey Roberts won this feature while 25C Shane Canton and 11A Austin Smith took the second and third place in the race. There was a yellow flag on lap six.

In the B Feature Main 2 there was a yellow out on lap two and lap six. The 28 of Dennis Erb Jr won the race followed by 1B Mike Benedum and 76 Brandon Overton.

In the A Feature Main 1, which ran 25 laps, B5 Brandon Sheppard won this feature, his third victory of the season, to win the money. The 33X car of Ricky Thornton Jr and 21 Billy Moyer also took top three places in the race. The yellow flag was brought out at lap five.

In the A Main 2 the 6 car of Jonathan Davenport won the race while the 1 car of Josh Richards and the 20 car of Jimmy Owens took home the second and third place. Davenport started sixth before weaving his way to the top for the win.

Through Thursday’s action the 3s of Brian Shirley with 497 points led the standings and then right behind him was the 39 of Tim McCreadie with 496 points and to round out the top three was the 21 car of Billy Moyer with 489 points.
