Eldora Speedway hosts Monster Jam

ROSSBURG – Monster Jam began Friday at Eldora Speedway with monster truck competition and ATV racing.

For the ATV racing Eldora had three heats. The first two were the qualifying heats, which both lasted four laps. The third heat was the championship race.

In heat one the 11 of Dennis Coleman was the winner, and the second heat was won by the 321 of Bobby Osborne.

Then the championship race was six laps with Kasey Prigon claiming victory.

“It was crazy out there tonight,” Prigon said. “The traction was awesome, and all I could do was hope for a win.”

Monster Jam ran seven heats on Friday. The first event was the wheelies event.

Grave Digger with Pablo Huffaker driving took the wheelies championship with a score of 31 then in second and third was Hooked and Stone Crusher with a score of 30. Then in fourth place was the Son-uva Digger car Ryan Anderson, son of Dennis Anderson, owner of Grave Digger.

For the second event Eldora had the qualifying with the eight fastest moving onto the races. The qualifying was a lap and a half each with two trucks at a time, but they raced the clocks instead of each other. The fastest one for qualifying was Son-uva Digger with a time of 37.32.

Racing was the third event with Son-uva Digger beating Max D, Gas Monkey beating Backwards Bob, El Toro beating Hooked and Lucas Oil Crusader beating Scooby Doo.

The fourth event was the semifinals in which Son-uva Digger beat Gas Monkey and Lucas Oil beat El Toro. The fifth event was Son-uva Digger beating Lucas Oil.

“The louder you get the better I do in the freestyle,” Anderson said.

Next Eldora hosted a newer event for Monster Jam called the doughnuts. The monster trucks went out two at a time to do doughnuts and whoever had the most fans cheering for them at the end won the battle. El Toro beat Son-uva Digger, Gas Monkey beat Hooked, Lucas Oil beat Grave Digger, and Max D beat Scooby Doo.

In the last event came the freestyle. Winning the freestyle was the Son-uva Digger with a score of 35, second and third place was Max D and Lucas Oil was a score of 32, fourth was Grave Digger with a score of 30.
