BROOKVILLE – The Arcanum Lady Trojans volleyball team opened their busy four games in one week schedule with a three set sweep over host Brookville Monday evening, 25-11, 25-22 and 25-17.
Arcanum opened the match in set one by taking commanding leads of 4-0, 6-1 and 14-6. An overall team effort in all aspects of the game put away the Lady Blue Devils 25-11.
“Our outside hitters, Shai Robinson and Audrey Heiser, who is a freshman we just started pulling up last week, played great,” Lady Trojans coach Macey O’Dell said. “Our setter Elle Siculan did an awesome job. The middle blockers had numerous blocks. We’ve been talking to them about how many they can get a night. Proud of my whole team really.”
Set two saw Arcanum sprint out to an early 11-4 advantage. After a Brookville timeout the Lady Blue Devils regrouped only to have the Lady Trojans again stretch their lead out to 19-13, forcing another Brookville respite. The Lady Trojans used good team communication to help combat the Brookville comeback attempt, holding off the Lady Blue Devils 25-22.
“Been working on everyone talking,” O’Dell said. “Great job tonight. Playing our game right now.”
Brookville seemed energized from its set two showing. The Blue Devils pushed out to an 8-4 third set lead, forcing the Lady Trojans to call a timeout. The Lady Devils continued to play well, increasing their advantage to 13-8 before Arcanum began working its way back into the set. The Lady Trojans would score 17 of the final 21 points to take set three, 25-17.
“I’m super proud of them, especially in the third when we got down and didn’t give up and fought back,” Coach O’Dell said.
Arcanum is now 11-4 on the season and faces strong Cross County Conference match ups this week highlighted by hosting Ansonia Thursday and facing Franklin Monroe Saturday.
