Franklin Monroe boys soccer team defeats Lehman Catholic 3-1

PITSBURG – Franklin Monroe continued its boys soccer game against Lehman Catholic on Tuesday and came away with a 3-1 victory.

The Jets and Cavaliers resumed the game, which began Sept. 10 but was delayed because of weather, with the score tied 1-1 with five minutes and 54 seconds left to play in the first half.

The rest of the first half was a matter of both teams kicking the ball around and having some decent plays but neither team being able to score. Going into half time the score was still tied 1-1.

In the second half Lehman Catholic came down and almost scored a goal but was offsides, making the goal not count.

With 15 minutes and 20 seconds left in the game Dallas Arnett, a senior, scored Franklin Monroe’s first goal for the half to make the score 2-1. Arnett’s goal was off an assist from Brydon Diceanu.

Within a minute Jacob Shellabarger went down and scored another goal for the Jets, making the score 3-1. Shellabarger’s goal was off another assist from Diceanu, his third of the game.

“I thought this game was very frustrating,” Franklin Monroe coach Danny Diceanu said. “I thought we would have broke open sooner and played better than we did. This is not the style we are used to playing. We needed to posses the ball better and play better. It was not until our second goal that we got our game together and started playing like we should be.

“My top two players for the game tonight were Brydon and Jake,” the FM coach continued. “Brydon played well and ended up having all three assists. He played very well, shared the ball well and made sure other players had time with the ball too. Jake also played well and had a good game.”
