Versailles’ Kyle Cotner qualifies for OHSAA district golf tournament

MIAMISBURG – Versailles’ Kyle Cotner qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association district tournament by finishing third overall in the Division II sectional on Wednesday at PipeStone Golf Course.

Cotner shot a 37 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine for his 18-hole round of 76. He finished four strokes behind Oakwood’s Peyton Wheat, who was the tournament medalist.

As a team Versailles finished seventh with a 349, 10 strokes off district-qualifying position. Oakwood with a 317, Alter with a 318, Fenwick with a 325 and Clinton-Massie with a 339 finished in the top four positions and earned spots at the district tournament.

Brookville finished fifth with a 339, Chaminade Julienne was sixth with a 339, Monroe finished eighth with a 352, Badin was ninth with a 354, Eaton was 10th with a 360, Valley View finished 11th with a 370, Carlisle was 12th with a 371, Madison was 13th with a 383, Eaton Clinton finished 14th with a 415, Stivers was 15th with a 416, and Preble Shawnee finished 16th with a 461.

Cotner led Versailles with his round of 76. Also for the Tigers, Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker finished 14th overall with an 81, Isaac Ruhenkamp finished 43rd with a 93, Alex Groff finished 56th with a 99, and Preston Platfoot finished 66th with a 104.

Along with Cotner, Madison’s Phillip Wilson with a 76, Brookville’s Blake Mullennix with a 77 and Valley View’s Ben Herman with a 78 qualified for the district tournament as individuals.

Cotner and the other district tournament qualifiers will compete at 9 a.m. Oct. 7 at Glenview Golf Course in Cincinnati. Three teams and three individuals from the district tournament will qualify for the state tournament.
