VERSAILLES – The West Ohio High School Bowling Conference held matches at McBo’s Lanes in Versailles on Tuesday.
Boys and girls teams from Ansonia, Mississinawa Valley and Versailles, who are members of the Southern Division, participated.
The Ansonia boys faced-off against perennial league and state power, the Coldwater Cavaliers. The Cavaliers came out on top 2,901-1,474. Charles Murphy led the Tigers with two games of 127 and 122 while Sam Rhoades contributed 135 and 111.
The Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks boys bowled two matches on this day. In the morning session the Hawks defeated Russia 2,386-2,156. Then after lunch MV triumphed over Minster 2,483- 2,257 to complete the sweep for the day.
Head coach Alan Longfellow has had his team working on hand position and spare shooting. The group consists of one senior and group of freshmen and sophomores.
“They all bowled great today,” Longfellow said. “Kids have done everything we’ve asked them to do.”
The Blackhawks boys are now 6-1 on the season.
The Versailles boys overpowered New Bremen 2,767-2,263. Alex Groff rolled 249 and 191 and Jacob Wenig chimed in with 187 and 172.
“Alex Groff was consistent today,” Versailles coach Tyler Phlipot said. “Came on as of late after fighting through a slump. Jacob Wenning stepped up today. Luke Shellhaas had a good second game.
“Boys as a team haven’t clicked yet,” Phlipot said. “We’re heading in the right direction.”
The Versailles girls team overwhelmed Russia 2,608-2,049. Morgan Heitkamp led the Lady Tigers while Brigette Holsapple added 187 and 172.
“Girls team is coming together pretty well,” Coach Phlipot said. “Morgan Heitkamp has been our most solid and consistent bowler so far.”
Both Versailles teams were 3-1 at the conclusion of the day.
The Mississinawa Valley girls bowled against Fort Loramie and came up just short, 1,895-1,890. This year’s version of the Lady Blackhawks have been anchored by seniors Spencer Warren and Tiffany Westfall.
“Been a real good season so far,” Coach Mike Warren said. “We put up a good fight today but came up a little short.”
The Lady Hawks were short-handed due to work schedules and medical problems. Despite the loss MV girls are 4-1.
