PITSBURG – Arcanum played in the opening round of the 54th annual Jet Holiday Basketball Tournament hosted by Franklin Monroe. The Trojans would take on the Brookville Blue Devils, the returning Jet tourney champs and 6-0 on the season.
Brookville utilized its physical strength and size to its advantage early on to establish 17-8 first quarter advantage by dominating the glass and getting second-chance opportunities.
Defensively the Blue Devils aggressive man defense and physical style play didn’t allow Arcanum to get going offensively, scoring just one point in the second period, and Brookville held a 30-9 halftime lead.
In the second half, the youth of Arcanum adjusted to the speed and strength, appearing to be more purposeful in their movements and attacking the defense.
Freshman Carter Gray would score 13 second half points and lead all Arcanum scorers with 16 on the night … but it was just too little offense against a very good Brookville team that improved to 7-0.
Brookville will play in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. tonight, taking on host Franklin Monroe.
Arcanum will play Mississinawa Valley in the consolation game at 6 p.m.
