Ansonia boys basketball team loses to Twin Valley South

ANSONIA – The Ansonia Tigers hosted Twin Valley South in a Cross County Conference boys basketball game on Tuesday night and lost 69-59.

In the first quarter the first points was a 2-point basket made by South’s Jared Cottingim and was followed by a 3-pointer from Ryan Bassler, putting Ansonia down 5-0. However, Devyn Sink answered back after that with a 3-pointer for Tigers’ first points and made it 5-3.

Then the Tigers went down by 8 points but brought it back to being ahead by 1 point, 12-11, at the end of the first quarter. The highest scorer in the first quarter was Cottingim with 4 for Twin Valley and Hunter Muir with 6 for Ansonia.

The second quarter the game went back and forth for the lead. However, Ansonia ended up down by 1 at the end of the second, 30-29, as Ansonia scored 17 and Twin Valley South scored 19 during the second quarter.

The leading scorers for the second quarter were Willie Bowman with 8 for Twin Valley South. Ansonia had two players with 5 points each, which were Sink and Brayden Swabb.

Third quarter Ansonia started off by going down 3 points, but Swabb hit a 3-pointer, tying the game up. Then by the 4:03 left to play mark Ansonia was up by 3. However, at the end of the third quarter the Tigers trailed by 2, 46-44.

Going into the last quarter Ansonia was down by 1 at the 6:46 mark. Then the Tigers went down by 3 at the 6:05 mark.They tied the game back up at the 4:31 mark. Cottingim scored 2 then Ansonia scored 3.

However, Twin Valley South answered back with a 3-pointer by Bassler, which put the Panthers ahead by 2. Ansonia then fouled Lovely, sending him to the line, and he made both baskets, which put Ansonia down by 4.

Twin Valley South kept scoring and put the Tigers down by 8 with 49.8 seconds left. The fourth quarter ended with the Tigers down by 10 points with a score of 69-59. Keith Burk had 6 points the fourth quarter for Ansonia, and Mike Myers had 9 points for Twin Valley South.

Muir and Sink led Ansonia with 18 points each. Swabb scored 11 points, Burk scored 6, Trevor Alexander 4 and Logan Alexander 2.
