Versailles boys basketball team defeats No. 1 Fort Loramie

FORT LORAMIE – Versailles beat the Fort Loramie boys basketball team, who is ranked No. 1 in the state, 66-55 on Tuesday.

Fort Loramie entered the game ranked No. 1 in Division IV by the Associated Press while Versailles was ranked No. 7 in Division III.

Versailles and Fort Loramie were evenly matched through most of the game except for the first quarter when the Tigers took a 19-8 lead. Versailles led 30-19 at halftime and 47-38 at the end of the third quarter en route to its 66-55 win.

Justin Ahrens led Versailles with a game-high 29 points. Also for the Tigers, Alex Wendel scored 8 points, AJ Ahrens scored 7, Austin Knapke scored 7, Keaton McEldowney scored 7, Connor Custenborder scored 6, and Sam Barga scored 2.

Dillon Braun led Fort Loramie with 20 points, Evan Berning scored 12, Tyler Siegel scored 9, Nick Brandewie scored 6, Austin Siegel scored 6 and Nathan Pleiman scored 2.

Versailles improved to 10-1 with the win while Fort Loramie fell to 8-2. Versailles will play host to Midwest Athletic Conference rival Marion Local on Friday.
