Versailles boys basketball team defeats Marion Local

VERSAILLES – The Versailles boys basketball team handed Marion Local its first Midwest Athletic Conference loss of the season with a 56-41 win on Friday.

Marion Local led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Versailles outscored Marion 13-3 in the second quarter to go into halftime up 26-18. The Tigers led the Flyers 41-34 at the end of the third quarter on their way to the 15-point victory.

Justin Ahrens led Versailles with 20 points in the victory. Also for the Tigers, AJ Ahrens scored 10 points, Keaton McEldowney scored 8, Alex Wendel scored 6, Austin Knapke scored 5, Connor Custenborder scored 4, and Sam Barga scored 3.

Tyler Prenger led Marion Local with 20 points. Also for the Flyers, Tyler Mescher scored 17 points, and Nathan Bruns scored 4.

Versailles improved to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC with the win. Marion Local fell to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the MAC.

Versailles will play Tri-Village at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Kettering’s Trent Arena in the Flyin’ to the Hoop.
