Versailles girls basketball team defeats state-ranked Fort Recovery

VERSAILLES – In a battle of state-ranked teams Versailles handed Fort Recovery its first loss of the season on Thursday with the Tigers winning 51-43.

Versailles entered Thursday’s Midwest Athletic Conference girls basketball game ranked third in the Associated Press’ Division III state rankings. Fort Recovery entered the game ranked fourth in Division III.

Fort Recovery had the advantage most of the night, leading 14-9 through one quarter and 28-19 at halftime. Versailles then cut into its deficit in the third quarter and finished the period down 34-31. In the fourth quarter the Tigers outscored the Indians 20-9 to win by 8.

Kami McEldowney led Versailles with a game-high 22 points. Also for the Tigers, Camille Watren scored 8 points, Lindsey Winner scored 6, Danielle Winner scored 5, Elizabeth Ording scored 4, Brynna Blakeley scored 3, Clair Schmitmeyer scored 2, and Ellen Peters scored 1.

Carley Stone led Fort Recovery with 12 points, Jocelyn Kaiser scored 11, Grace Thien scored 9, Whitney Will scored 9, and Kiah Wendel scored 2.

Versailles improved to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the MAC with Thursday’s win while Fort Recovery fell to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the MAC. Versailles will return to action on Saturday at Celina.
