COLDWATER – Pla-Mor Lanes was the stop for Thursday’s South Division matches of the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference.

The Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks were in a matchup against the St. Henry Redskins and the Versailles Tigers were rolling off versus the Fort Recovery Indians in boys varsity action.

Mississinawa and St. Henry both entered tied for second place with Versailles at 3-1. St. Henry came out on fire from the start, throwing many strikes and kept up the pace throughout the match. The Redskins were so consistent that they crossed the 3,000 pin threshold, defeating the Blackhawks 3,035-2,285.

Mason Hardwick led the Hawks in game one with a 177. Game two had Zac Longfellow roll a 210 and Brandon White chip in a 183.

“We’re going to have to play better,” MV coach Alan Longfellow said.

Versailles handled Fort Recovery 2,799-2,075. The Tigers won each game and the Baker games. Alex Groff led the Tigers with scores of 194 and 247. Jacob Wenig also bowled a strong 219 and 182. Kyle Cotner contributed 241 to the cause in game two.

“Overall we bowled well,” Tigers coach Tyler Phlipot said. “We’re struggling in the Bakers right now. My philosophy is matches are won and lost in the Bakers. We’ve got four weeks until sectionals. We need to step up a little bit and make the Bakers count.”

Coach Phlipot said he liked where his team is right now.

“We’re gelling well as a team, having fun … good attitude, have confidence right now,” he said. “If one person is struggling there’s another one there to pick him up. That’s what bowling is all about.

“We’ve got a good group of boys, five seniors and two juniors,” Phlipot said. “High expectations. I feel we can get there.”
