Arcanum girls basketball team topples Brookville

BROOKVILLE – The Arcanum Lady Trojans starred on both ends of the court in dispatching the Brookville Lady Devils 48-17 Monday night.

The win improved the Trojans to 13-6 overall while the Devils dropped 0-18.

The Devils heated up the scoring on a trifecta by Kaylee Wheat to start the game. However, the rest of the frame belonged to the Trojans. After all was said and done after the first eight minutes the Trojans held a 14-7 lead.

The Lady Trojans paced in scoring by Stevie Johnting who scored 7 points, matching Brookville’s total points for the first quarter. The Lady Devils were led by Wheat with her 3 points.

The second quarter saw the ball hawking Trojans sprinting down the court converting Devil turnovers into Arcanum baskets at a quickened pace. The Trojans were led by Johnting again with another 7 points, Brittany Kinney had a long 3 and Madi O’Daniel popped in 4.

Arcanum limited Brookville to just an Alaina Good jumper in the second quarter, making tally 28-9.

The third quarter theatrics showed the Trojans pulling down numerous rebounds and marching down the court for some quick baskets and a flying defense for a 39-11 lead. The Devils were held to another deuce and delivered by Wheat. Johnting again led the scoring with 5 points by making a 3-pointer.

The last frame saw subs proliferate on the Trojans side of the ball as they canned 9 points compared to the Devils, who had a total of 6. The 6 points were two more than Brookville had in the two previous quarters combined.

The Lady Devils were led by Bailey Pennington who accounted for all of the points on two big 3-pointers. Johnting led the scoring for Arcanum in all four quarters with another 4 in the scoring column

Arcanum was led by Johnting with 23 points, O’Daniel with 9, Gracie Garno 4, Kinney 4, Camille Pohl 3 McKenzie Sharritts 3 and Macey Hartman 2 for a total of 48 points that included 12 regulars, six 3-pointers and six free throws.

Scoring for the Lady Devils of Brookville showed Bailey Pennington with 8 points, Wheat 5 and Kylie Surber and Good had 2 apiece.
