PLEASANT HILL – The Franklin Monroe girls basketball team won its regular season finale on Thursday, defeating Newton 51-46 in a Cross County Conference game.
After being tied 12-12 in the first quarter, Newton took a 21-20 lead into halftime. Franklin Monroe then took a 35-34 lead in the third quarter on its way to a 5-point victory.
Audrey Cable, Belle Cable and Corina Conley led Franklin Monroe with 11 points each on Thursday. Also for the Jets, Chloe Peters scored 7 points, Kennedy Morris scored 7, and Tara Goubeaux scored 4.
Tatum McBride led Newton with a game-high 20 points, scoring her 1,000th career point in the process. Also for Newton, Elizabeth Carroll scored 8, Macy Flanary scored 5, Kassidi Alexander scored 4, Anna Wolfe scored 4, Kaylee Kesler scored 3, and Aliya Stine scored 1.
Franklin Monroe improved to 13-9 overall and 9-4 in the CCC with the win.
