8 Versailles wrestlers qualify for OHSAA district tournament

SIDNEY – Versailles finished as the sectional runner up as eight Tiger wrestlers qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III district tournament.

The Arcanum and Versailles wrestling teams both competed in the sectional tournament this past weekend at Lehman Catholic. Versailles finished as the sectional runner up to Mechanicsburg while Arcanum tied for 17th with Triad.

Versailles senior Bo Bey won the 182 pound division to qualify for the district tournament. He beat Northeastern senior Matt Dunsmuir by default, pinned Brookville junior Justin Eyler in 3:46, beat Miami East sophomore Matthew Welker in a 12-2 major decision and beat Troy Christian junior Damon Beatty 2-1 in overtime of the championship match.

Versailles freshman Cael Bey finished as the runner up in the 106 pound class to qualify for the district tournament. He beat Northeastern sophomore Kyle Kinder in a 12-4 major decision, pinned Covington sophomore Dolan Young in 1:05 and was pinned by Troy Christian freshman Ethan Turner in 3:26.

Versailles junior Preston Platfoot finished as the runner up in the 126 pound class to advance to districts. He pinned Triad freshman Dalton Overfield in 1:28, beat Covington sophomore Riley Richards 6-0 and was pinned by Mechanicsburg senior Tyler Wetzel in 3:31.

Versailles senior Tanner Bey finished as the runner up in the 145 pound class to qualify for districts. He beat Miami East sophomore Cody Nickels in a 20-5 technical fall, beat Triad senior Zack Zizzo 12-6 and was pinned by Mechanicsburg senior Tanner Smith in 5:28.

Versailles senior Jonathan Moorman finished as the runner up in the 170 pound class to advance to the district tournament. He pinned Covington senior Ross Bowman in 5:09, beat West Liberty-Salem freshman Zayne Reed in a 17-4 major decision, beat National Trail freshman Craig Montgomery 10-6 and lost in a 20-5 technical fall to Mechanicsburg senior Kaleb Romero.

Versailles senior Jacob Rismiller finished as the runner up in the 195 pound class to qualify for districts. He pinned Springfield Northwestern junior Ryan Breakall in 1:10, beat Northeastern senior Bailey Stratton 5-1, and lost 3-2 to Lehman Catholic senior Wyatt Long.

Versailles sophomore Jacob Poling finished fourth in the 120 pound class advance to districts. He beat Arcanum sophomore Ethin Hoffman 7-6, lost in a 28-13 technical fall to Miami East junior Graham Shore, pinned Milton-Union senior Jordan King in 4:11 and lost 3-2 to Troy Christian senior Drew Whaley.

Versailles junior Jeffrey Ware finished fourth in the 285 pound class to qualify for the district tournament. He pinned Bethel junior Zachary McCarroll in 1:19, beat Troy Christian senior Seth Douglas 3-1, was pinned by Dixie senior Cameron Coffman in 3:12, beat National Trail senior Dylan Hager 4-3 and lost 3-0 to Troy Christian’s Douglas.

Arcanum sophomore Ethin Hoffman finished fifth to become a district alternate in the 120 pound class. He pinned Dixie freshman Trevor Hall in 2:09, lost 7-6 to Versailles sophomore Jacob Poling, beat Mechanicsburg junior Ben Stroud 7-4, beat Northridge sophomore James Dyer in a 16-2 major decision, lost 3-1 to Troy Christian senior Drew Whaley and beat Milton-Union senior Jordan King 4-0.

Versailles junior Steven Mangen finished fifth to become a district alternate in the 132 pound class. He pinned Northeastern junior Josh Hague in 1:44, lost a 15-4 major decision to Mechanicsburg senior Alex Rhine, pinned Northridge sophomore Mason Hardin in 4:29, pinned Bethel junior Luke First in 1:48, lost 7-0 to Springfield Northwestern junior Jacob Lees and beat Covington freshman Austin Flick 4-3.

Versailles junior Kyle Wuebker finished fifth to become a district alternate in the 138 pound class. He lost an 11-1 major decision to Troy Christian junior Jared Ford, pinned Lehman Catholic freshman Noah Young in 1:41, Northridge sophomore Wesley Carter in 4:15, pinned Tri-County North junior Jacob Iaasacs in 2:14, beat Miami East junior Zane Strubler in a 16-0 technical fall and beat Arcanum sophomore Dylan Burns in a forfeit.

Arcanum sophomore Dylan Burns finished sixth in the 138 pound class. He beat Lehman Catholic freshman Noah Young, was pinned by Troy Christian junior Jared Ford in 1:57, pinned Springfield Northwestern sophomore Jacob Bills in 1:19, pinned Mechanicsburg freshman Isaac Bryant in 1:49, was disqualified against Covington sophomore Keringten Martin and forfeited to Versailles junior Kyle Wuebker.

Versailles freshman Nick Monnier finished sixth in the 113 pound class. He lost 7-3 to Brookville junior Devin Miller, pinned Mechanicsburg junior Gabby Terry in 4:12, lost to Dixie sophomore J.C. Fox in a 10-2 major decision and was pinned by Northridge sophomore Mason Swanton in 2:37.

In the 132 pound class Arcanum freshman Aidan Erickson was pinned by Miami East junior Alex Isbrandt in 1:18 and lost a 13-2 major decision to Brookville senior Cory Teegarden.

In the 145 pound class Arcanum freshman Ethan Garbig was pinned by Northridge senior Madison Swanton in five minutes and lost 10-5 to Miami East sophomore Cody Nickels.

In the 152 pound class Arcanum senior Matt Todd lost 7-2 to National Trail senior Josh Cook, beat Springfield Northwestern freshman Millard Rife in an 11-2 major decision and lost a 16-2 major decision to Dixie senior Steven Brown.

In the 152 pound class Versailles sophomore Derek Cavin lost 8-5 to Miami East junior Travis Ferguson, pinned Northeastern sophomore Grant Hodson in 1:24 and lost 9-7 to Troy Christian senior Caleb Hoskins.

In the 160 pound class Versailles sophomore Tyler Gigandet beat Miami East sophomore Michael Miller 10-5, lost 1-0 to Brookville senior Landon Armbruster and was pinned by West Liberty-Salem senior Charlie Williams in 4:45.

In the 170 pound class Arcanum freshman Dylan Rhodehamel was pinned by Milton-Union senior Caleb Black in 37 seconds, pinned Triad freshman Danny Lake in 18 seconds and was pinned by Miami East senior Colton Kowalak in 4:42.

In the 220 pound class Arcanum freshman Nolan Yeomans was pinned by National Trail senior Ben Sullivan in 1:21 and was pinned by Brookville sophomore Chase Davis in 3:31.

Arcanum freshman Jayden Heltsley was pinned by Northeastern senior Lane McKinney in 31 seconds and lost 8-2 to Tri-County North junior Dakota Dixon.

The district qualifiers will compete at 3 p.m. Friday at Hobart Arena in Troy.
