COLUMBUS – Versailles’ Justin Ahrens and Travis Swank received the state’s top honors in Division III from the Associated Press for the 2016-17 boys basketball season.

Ahrens was named first team all-Ohio in Division III and the Division III co-player of the year along with Haviland Wayne Trace senior Ethan Linder. Ahrens, who is verbally committed to play college basketball at The Ohio State University, averaged 22.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for Versailles. He also received one first-place vote for Ohio’s Mr. Basketball award, which went to Westerville South senior Kaleb Wesson, a fellow Ohio State commit.

Swank was named the Division III co-coach of the year along with Zach Ruth from Galion Northmor and Derek Edwards from Martins Ferry. In his first year as Versailles’ varsity coach, Swank led the Tigers to the Midwest Athletic Conference championship with a 9-0 conference record and a No. 2 ranking in the AP’s Division III state poll. Versailles went 21-1 during the regular season and then went on to win sectional and district championships in the Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs before being eliminated in the sweet 16.

Additionally, Tri-Village senior Gavin Richards was named second team all-Ohio in Division IV while fellow Tri-Village senior Trace Couch was named honorable mention all-Ohio in Division IV.
