Ansonia softball team run rules Mississinawa Valley twice

UNION CITY – The Ansonia softball team swept Mississinawa Valley in a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the first game, which was a Cross County Conference contest, Ansonia won 17-6 in a five-inning run rule.

Ansonia scored four runs in the top half of the first inning, three in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and six in the fifth. Mississinawa scored one run in the first, one in the third and four in the fourth.

Ansonia out-hit Mississinawa Valley 21 to 10 in the game.

Ansonia’s Trinity Henderson went 5-for-5 with a double, a RBI and four runs. Emily Gariety was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, four RBI and four runs. Alyssa Armock was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and two RBI. Kayla Saintignon was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Heidi Runkel went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run for Ansonia. Katelyn McKenna was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Jailyn Thwaits was 2-for-4 with two runs. Lexi Shinn was 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and two RBI. Chelsea Noggler was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and two RBI.

Mississinawa Valley’s Paxton Scholl went 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, two runs and two RBI. Taydem Elson was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Kinsie Blocher was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Makayla Coning was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Bailey Johnson went 1-for-3 and drove in a run for MV. Lindsay Johns was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Amanda Jeffers walked and scored a run.

Henderson earned the win for Ansonia as she pitched all five innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Scholl was charged with the loss for MV as he pitched the complete game and allowed 17 runs on 21 hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

In the second game, a non-conference game, Ansonia run ruled Mississinawa Valley 15-2 in five innings.

Ansonia scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth while holding Mississinawa to two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Ansonia out-hit MV 14 to six in the game.

Ansonia’s Shinn went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs and four RBI. Amrock was 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs. Noggler was 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs. Gariety was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBI.

Henderson was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI and three runs for Ansonia. Thwaits was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Runkel was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and two RBI. McKenna went 1-for-3 with a walk. Saintignon walked and scored a run.

Mississinawa Valley’s Johns was 2-for-2 with a RBI and a stolen base. Taydem Elson was 1-for-1, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Johnson went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Jolie Elson was 1-for-2. Scholl was 1-for-3.

Henderson pitched the complete game to earn the win for Ansonia, allowing two runs on six hits, no walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts.

Taydem Elson was the losing pitcher for Mississinawa Valley as she allowed 15 runs on 14 hits, nine walks and two strikeouts.
