Versailles softball team wins at Marion Local

MARIA STEIN – Versailles beat Marion Local 8-4 in a Midwest Athletic Conference softball game on Tuesday.

After Versailles scored the game’s first run in the top half of the first inning, Marion Local took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the frame. Versailles then regained the lead with three runs in the second inning. Versailles scored four more runs in the fourth inning, and Marion scored the game’s final two runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Versailles had 12 hits and one error. Marion Local had nine hits and five errors.

Brynna Blakeley went 3-for-4 with a walk and scored two runs. Cori Lawrence was 3-for-4 and scored a run. Kami McEldowney was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI and a run.

Caitlin McEldowney went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs. Hailey McEldowney was 1-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI. Anna Gehret was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Sarah Gigandet and Kate Stammen both drove in a run.

Lawrence pitched the complete game, allowing two earned runs and two unearned runs on nine hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
