Versailles baseball team loses at Fort Recovery

FORT RECOVERY – Fort Recovery rallied with two outs in the fifth inning to defeat Versailles 6-3 in a Midwest Athletic Conference game on Thursday.

After four-and-a-half scoreless innings, Fort Recovery scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Versailles reduced its deficit to 5-3 in the top half of the sixth inning then Fort Recovery scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Versailles had five hits and no errors while Fort Recovery had nine hits and three errors.

Noah Richard went 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI and a run for Versailles. Austin Knapke was 1-for-3, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Kyle Subler was 1-for-3 and walked once. Noah Grisez also was 1-for-3. Cole Neikamp drove in two runs, and Kurtis Rutschilling scored a run.

Niekamp was the losing pitcher as he allowed five earned runs on seven hits, three walks, one hit batter and eight strikeouts in five innings on the mound. Elliot Bruns pitched one inning, allowing one earned run on two hits, no walks and one strikeout.
