PLEASANT HILL – Newton rallied late to beat Mississinawa Valley 10-8 in a Cross County Conference baseball game on Tuesday.
Newton scored first with a run in the first inning, but Mississinawa scored two runs in the second inning and three in the third to lead 5-1. After Newton scored two runs in the bottom of the third, MV added three runs in the fourth to lead 8-3. Newton then rallied for six runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to win 10-8.
Mississinawa Valley had eight hits and one error. Newton had seven hits and two errors.
Trent Collins went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs for MV. Ethan Dirksen was 1-for-4 with a run and three RBI. Zac Longfellow was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Andrew Johns was 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run. Matthew Slob was 1-for-2 and scored a run. Kyler Guillozet and Cameron Shimp both were 1-for-3 and scored a run. Cody Dirksen drove in a run. Colton Hines scored a run.
Slob pitched 4 1/3 innings for Mississinawa Valley, allowing seven earned runs on five hits, six walks and three strikeouts. Collins pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
