Tri-Village baseball team wins at Mississinawa Valley

UNION CITY – Tri-Village beat Mississinawa Valley 8-6 in a Cross County Conference baseball game on Thursday.

Tri-Village took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and Mississinawa Valley tied the game in the second inning. Tri-Village then went up 6-2 with one run in the third and three in the fourth.

Mississinawa Valley scored one run in the bottom of the fourth to reduce its deficit to 6-3. After Tri-Village scored a run in the top of the sixth, MV scored three in the bottom half of the inning to pull within 7-6. Tri-Village then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Tri-Village had eight hits and two errors while Mississinawa Valley had six hits and four errors.

Jonny Wilson was the winning pitcher for Tri-Village and improved to 4-2 on the year. He allowed two earned runs and four unearned runs on six hits, five walks and 10 strikeouts in six innings on the mound. Trey Frech earned his first save of the year, pitching a scoreless seventh inning and striking out one.

Trent Collins pitched the complete game for Mississinawa Valley and was charged with the loss.

Offensively Wilson went 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs for Tri-Village. Luke Wheeler was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Christian Ricker was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Frech was 1-for-2 with a triple and a RBI.

Tri-Village improved to 14-5 overall and 5-5 in the CCC with the win.
