“Celina’s always been good,” Greenville girls tennis coach Jim Koontz said. “They’re a decent team. St. Marys and Celina are both decent. We beat them 5-0, St. Marys.”

Prior to defeating Celina, Greenville beat St. Marys 5-0 and lost 4-1 to Beavercreek.

In the Beavercreek match on Tuesday Marchal beat Melinda Dacri-Kim 6-0, 6-0 in third singles. Milligan lost 2-6, 4-6 to Julia Bays in first singles while Manges lost 2-6, 1-6 to Dhira Venkatramani in second singles.

Haupt and Swensen lost 2-6, 3-6 to Beavercreek’s Esther Hu and Vania Jiao, and Malott and Alison Baughman lost 5-7, 3-6 in second doubles.

“Playing Beavercreek, they had their eyes opened,” Koontz said of his players.

Koontz expects the Lady Wave to have another strong season this year even though they have a young team.

“They’re doing good,” Koontz said. “We’re doing alright. I thought we could have a good season, and hopefully we’ll keep working hard and we will. You’ve just got to hang in there.”
