Versailles places 4th in Totally Promotional Volleyball Spikeoff at Coldwater

COLDWATER – Versailles began the 2017 volleyball season with a fourth place finish in the ninth annual Totally Promotional Volleyball Spikeoff on Saturday at Coldwater.

The eight-team tournament included Coldwater, Fort Loramie, Miami East, New Knoxville, Ottawa-Glandorf, St. Henry, St. Marys and Versailles.

During the 2016 season all eight schools that competed in this year’s Totally Promotional Volleyball Spikeoff had a winning record, seven qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association district tournament, five qualified for the OHSAA regional tournament, four had at least 20 victories and one (Miami East) won an OHSAA state championship. Versailles reached the sweet 16 of the 2016 OHSAA tournament before losing to eventual Division III state champion Miami East.

Versailles began Saturday’s tournament with a 25-23, 21-25, 25-20 victory against Fort Loramie. The Lady Tigers lost 25-15, 27-25 to Miami East then lost 17-25, 25-15, 25-20 to Ottawa-Glandorf.

Danielle Winner led Versailles with 28 kills during the Totally Promotional Volleyball Spikeoff, Elizabeth Ording had 26 kills, Lindsey Winner tallied 15, and Payton Berger had 13. Berger and Danielle Winner both had a block.

Ellen Peters led the Tigers with four aces while Kami McEldowney and Cassie Peters each had three. Ellen Peters also led the Tigers with 82 assists, and Kami McEldowney added three.

Kami McEldowney had a team-high 39 digs, Caitlin McEldowney had 24, and Cassie Peters had 23.

Versailles will return to action with its home opener on Saturday against Russia.
