Bradford football team shut out at New Bremen

NEW BREMEN – Bradford finished its season opener on Friday with negative-21 yards as the Railroaders lost 48-0 to New Bremen.

New Bremen jumped out on Bradford early with a 1-yard touchdown run by Avery Powers, another 1-yard touchdown run by Powers, a 21-yard touchdown run by Nolan Bornhorst and a 64-yard touchdown run by Bornhorst to go up 28-0 in the first quarter.

Powers scored his third touchdown of the night with a 4-yard run in the second quarter to make it 35-0 entering halftime.

Powers ran for a fourth touchdown, this one from 30 yards out, in the third quarter to increase the Cardinals’ lead to 42-0. New Bremen scored its final touchdown of the night with a 6-yard run by Alex Yingling in the fourth quarter to win 48-0.

New Bremen finished the night with 413 yards on 47 plays. The Cardinals had 92 passing yards and 321 rushing yards.

Bradford cumulatively lost 21 yards on the night, an average of -0.8 yards per play. The Railroaders, who had 6 yards passing and -27 yards rushing, didn’t record a first down in the game.

Bradford lost one fumble while New Bremen didn’t turn the ball over.

Gavin Trevino was 2-of-6 passing for 6 yards for Bradford, completing both passes to Hunter Penkal. Adam Rostkowski led the Railroaders with 6 rushing yards on nine attempts.

New Bremen’s Bornhorst was 4-of-6 passing for 92 yards. Levi Clem caught two passes for 49 yards, and Powers caught two for 43 yards.

Bornhorst ran 11 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Powers ran 12 times for 111 yards and four touchdowns.

Kyle Mills led Bradford’s defense with nine tackles including one tackle for a loss. Hunter Gheen had six tackles including one for a loss. Wyatt Spangler had a sack.

Bradford fell to 0-1 with the loss while New Bremen improved to 1-0. Bradford will play host to Troy Christian in the Railroaders’ home opener on Friday.
