NEW MADISON – In their first-ever Cross County Conference varsity football game, the Tri-Village Patriots fell to the Bethel Bees 64-14.

The Patriots (1-2) came into Friday’s game hoping to make a good showing in their conference debut. However, the Bees (3-0) quickly dashed those hopes, scoring four touchdowns in the first 15 minutes as the Tri-Village squad ended the first quarter behind 30-6.

The Bees stung quickly from the start with touchdown runs by running back Caleb South and wide receiver Travis Durst.

The Patriots’ lone score in the first half was a 4-yard run by quarterback Trey Frech with 6:15 left in the first quarter. Frech’s pass attempt on the 2-point conversion, however, fell incomplete.

Bees quarterback Jacob Evans ran the ball in from 13 yards out for Bethel’s third touchdown. A failed 2-point conversion kept the score at 22-6. Evans later passed for another touchdown to make it 30-6.

A Patriot drive to begin the second quarter was stalled when the Bees’ Durst intercepted a pass by Frech at the Tri-Village 47-yard line. A subsequent 25-yard touchdown reception by Durst put Bethel ahead 37-6.

South added another touchdown run, from 8 yards out, with 5:42 left in the half. The point after kick was good, giving the Bees a 44-6 lead.

In the last minute of the first half the Patriots fell apart, giving up two more touchdown passes and taking a 57-6 deficit into the locker room at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Bees topped off its scoring with 4-yard touchdown run by Bethel running back Jared Evans. A successful point after kick pushed Bethel’s lead to 64-6.

With less than 10 seconds on the clock, and with the Bethel defense in pass protection, Patriot running back Tylor Cheeseman broke past the Bees’ defenders at the line and skirted the sideline for a 70-yard touchdown run. Cheeseman also rushed for the 2-point conversion to make the final score Bethel 64, Tri-Village 14.

Bethel improved its record to 3-0. The Patriots fell to 1-2. Tri-Village next travels to Mississinawa Valley (1-2) on Friday.
