CAMDEN – The Arcanum volleyball team won in four sets on Saturday at Preble Shawnee, 25-15, 19-25, 25-16, 25-14.
Arcanum set a fast-paced tempo in the first set that put the Trojans ahead 9-1 before the Arrows called their first timeout. That didn’t slow the Trojans down as they continued their pace until the Arrows called their second timeout after trailing by 10. Arcanum went on to win the set 25-15.
The second set was in favor of the Arrows as the Trojans made some untimely errors. Arcanum coach Macey O’Dell called a timeout with Arcanum in an 18-9 hole. The Trojans made adjustments and battled hard to decrease the deficit 23-18. However, the Arrows didn’t let up and defeated the Trojans 25-19 to tie the match at one game apiece.
Losing the second set didn’t sit well with the Trojans. They came out focused and determined to minimize mistakes in the third set. They jumped to a 9-0 lead before the Arrows called the first timeout. The serving rally continued to put the Trojans up 11-0. The Arrows rallied back, but it wasn’t enough to deter the Trojans who went on to win 25-16.
The fourth set had the Trojans fired up and ready to finish while the Arrows were starting to show fatigue. The Trojans were relentless in their play. The tempo was fast, and they minimized errors to win the set 25-14 and win the match 3-1.
The junior varsity match saw back-and-forth play in the first set with several lead changes. The Trojans pulled ahead and defeated the Arrows 25-18.
The second set found the Trojans in a deep hole from the start, but a smart timeout by the Trojans got them back on track. The Trojans worked hard and minimized errors to tie up the game 9-9. Both teams continued to battle with a serving rally from the Trojans as they went on to win the set 25-19 to sweep the match.
