Ansonia football team qualifies for OHSAA playoffs for the first time since 2010

COLUMBUS – Ansonia has qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association football playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Ansonia (6-4) was the final team in the Division VII Region 28 playoffs to qualify for the postseason. The eighth-seeded Tigers will play top-seeded Crestview (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Convoy in the regional quarterfinals.

This year marks the sixth time in program history that Ansonia has qualified for the OHSAA playoffs. The Tigers previously made the playoffs in 1999, 2000, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Ansonia is one of four Cross County Conference football teams that made the OHSAA playoffs along with seven teams from the Greater Western Ohio Conference and six teams from the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Centerville (9-1) from the GWOC is the top-seeded team in the Division I Region 3 playoffs and will play host to eighth-seeded Hilliard Darby (7-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Wayne (7-3) from the GWOC is the fourth-seeded team in the Division I Region 3 playoffs and will play host to fifth-seeded Pickerington North (8-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Northmont (8-2) from the GWOC is the sixth-seeded team in the Division I Region 3 playoffs and will play at third-seeded Pickerington Central (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Fairmont (7-3) from the GWOC is the seventh-seeded team in the Division I Region 3 playoffs and will play at second-seeded Hilliard Bradley (10-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Sidney (9-1) from the GWOC is the fourth-seeded team in the Division II Region 8 playoffs and will play host to fifth-seeded Dayton Belmont (9-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Troy (8-2) from the GWOC is the sixth-seeded team in the Division II Region 8 playoffs and will play at third-seeded Cincinnati Anderson (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Trotwood-Madison (10-0) from the GWOC is the top-seeded team in the Division III Region 12 playoffs and will play host to eighth-seeded Elida (8-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Miami East (9-1) from the CCC is the top-seeded team in the Division V Region 20 playoffs and will play host to eighth-seeded Reading (7-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Anna (7-3) from the MAC is the seventh-seeded team in the Division V Region 20 playoffs and will play at second-seeded Middletown Madison (8-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Marion Local (10-0) from the MAC is the top-seeded team in the Division VI Region 24 playoffs and will play host to seventh-seeded Fort Recovery (6-4) from the MAC at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Coldwater (7-3) from the MAC is the fourth-seeded team in the Division VI Region 24 playoffs and will play host to fifth-seeded Bethel (9-1) from the CCC at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Delphos St. John’s (6-4) from the MAC is the third-seeded team in the Division VII Region 28 playoffs and will play host to sixth-seeded DeGraff Riverside (6-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Minster (6-4) from the MAC is the fourth-seeded team in the Division VII Region 28 playoffs and will play host to fifth-seeded Fort Loramie (8-2) from the CCC at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The OHSAA playoffs will last five weeks with seven state champions crowned on Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
