Mississinawa Valley, Versailles bowlers begin season in WOHSBC singles tournament

MINSTER – Bowlers from Mississinawa Valley and Versailles began the 2017-18 season in the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference singles tournament on Saturday at Community Lanes in Minster.

There were 80 boys and 77 girls competing in the conference tournament. The tournament began with every bowler rolling two games. The boys field then was cut to 44 bowlers while the girls field was cut to the top 40.

The remaining bowlers then rolled one additional game after which the field was reduced to the top four for both the boys and girls. The top four bowlers in each tournament then competed in bracketed tournament play for the championship.

In the boys tournament, Versailles’ Tyler Gehret finished 41st with a three-game series of 459, Luke Shellhaas finished 50th with a two-game series of 306, Brandon Bradley finished 53rd with a two-game series of 304, Bretten Cheadle finished 55th with a two-game series of 300, Chad Shimp finished 59th with a two-game series of 292, Sam Bensman finished 61st with a two-game series of 286, Jordan Cordonnier finished 76th with a two-game series of 249, and Quayd Pearson finished 78th with a two-game series of 241.

Mississinawa Valley’s Zac Longfellow finished 46th with a two-game series of 310, Josh Cantu finished 51st with a two-game series of 305, Lucas Newbauer finished 62nd with a two-game series of 281, Mason Hardwick finished 64th with a two-game series of 280, and Matt Slyder finished 68th with a two-game series of 272.

Lima Shawnee’s Skyler Briggs won the boys tournament. He rolled a three-game series of 605 then beat Celina’s Cole Cisco in the semifinals and Temple Christian’s Gabe Dilallo in the final.

In the girls tournament, Versailles’ Morgan Heitkampfinished 17th with a three-game series of 475, Lindsay Cheadle finished 20th with a three-game series of 460, Morgan Barlage finished 25th with a three-game series of 449, Jena Mangen finished 29th with a three-game series of 436, Makenzie Berning finished 34th with a three-game series of 415, Haddi Treon finished 49th with a two-game series of 260, Kalysta Thobe finished 51st with a two-game series of 258, Natalie York finished 59th with a two-game series of 236, Laney Petitjean finished 62nd with a two-game series of 229, and Payton Bulcher finished 65th with a two-game series of 223.

Mississinawa Valley’s Payton Reichard finished 18th with a three-game series of 472, Airrika Westfall finished 40th with a three-game series of 386, Kali Copeland finished 61st with a two-game series of 229, and Elizabeth Mangas finished 69th with a two-game series of 208.

Wapakoneta’s Madison Doseck won the girls tournament as she rolled a three-game series of 566 then beat Lima Shawnee’s Allie Meeker in the semifinals and Lima Central Catholic’s Hannah Riepenhoff in the championship match.
