Swimmers set records at CCC meet

NEW CARLISLE – The Cross County Conference hosted a swim meet on Sunday for member schools with individual swimmers and swim teams.

Although there are not enough teams to make it an official title for league awards, medals were given out to individual winners competing at the meet. Darke County swimmers competing were from Ansonia, Arcanum and Tri-Village.

Ansonia

The lone participant for Ansonia was freshman boys swimmer Connor Stachler, who won two events at the conference swim meet on Sunday. Stachler is the CCC champion in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.12 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:53.10.

Tri-Village

The Morris family represented Tri-Village with Edie Morris and Lucie Morris swimming in girls competition and Aubrey Morris in boys competition.

“The three Morris swimmers have had a great year,” Coach Chris McKinney said. “They have achieved many personal bests and swam most of the events offered throughout the season thus far. Last weekend’s conference championships was the end-of-season test to get ready for final stretch into sectionals, districts and state championships.”

Edie Morris set a record for the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:06.06. She also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:50.82.

Lucie Morris set a record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.18 and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.55.

Tri-Village girls team with just two representatives finished in fourth place.

Aubrey Morris, the lone male representative for the Patriots, won the boys 50-yard freestyle in 24.23. In a marathon of a race, he won the 1,650-yard freestyle, setting a record time of 18:43.33.

“The three should do well at sectional and districts with a shot at a couple of swims resulting in qualifying for the state championships in Canton ant the end of February,” McKinney said. “They will spend the next 10 days working on the small details to get ready.”

Arcanum

On the girls side Arcanum had a couple of relay teams compete and do well.

The team of Mya Stephenson, Rachel Norris, Eiliana Wright and Maggie Kahler placed third in the 200-medley relay with a time of 2:16.09.

The relay team of Allie Barry Elora Sudduth, Madelyn Wogomon and Isabella Gable placed 2nd in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.87.

Isabella Gable of Arcanum won the 50-yard freestyle in a record time of 24.32 and also the 500-yard freestyle in another record time of 5:05.23.

Elora Sudduth finished third in the girls 100-yard butterfly in 1:34.13 and third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:32.49.

Allie Barry finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:37.81 and swam a 33.85 for the 50-yard freestyle.

Brittany Stump placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and swam 35.84 in the 50-yard freestyle.

Madelyn Wogomon placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:14.06

Jimmy Barry of Arcanum also set boys league record times for the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.40 and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.43.

Stephen Young also finished first in the boys 100-yard freestyle in a time of 55.72 and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.20.

Tristen O’Brien placed second in the boys 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.94 and placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.50.

Both the Arcanum’s boys and girls teams finished third in their respective areas.

Bethel won overall combined boys and girls CCC swim meet, Miami East was second, Arcanum third, Tri-Village fourth, Ansonia fifth and National Trail was sixth.
