Arcanum Trojans win CCC boys golf championship

VERSAILLES – Arcanum won the Cross County Conference boys golf championship on Thursday at Stillwater Valley Golf Club.

Arcanum, which suffered a single regular season loss to Miami East, won the conference tournament by firing a 331 on Thursday. The Trojans beat Miami East, which finished as the runner up with a 342 in the meet, to claim the tournament championship and the conference championship.

“I’m really proud of them,” Arcanum boys golf coach Jim Gray said. “There’s five seniors on the team this year, most all of them played varsity their entire career, and we’ve come to this meet so many times and been so close. To see them get it, I couldn’t be more happy for them. I’m so excited for them.”

Following Arcanum and Miami East, Newton finished third in the tournament with a 349, Franklin Monroe was fourth with a 357, Bethel finished fifth with a 365, and Tri-Village was sixth with a 366. National Trail finished seventh with a score of 370, Covington was eighth with a 373, Twin Valley South placed ninth with a 385, Mississinawa Valley was 10th with a 404, Tri-County North finished 11th with a 405, and Ansonia was 12th with a 419.

Newton senior Brock Jamison won the individual championship as he shot a two-over-par 74 for the 18-hole round. Twin Valley South freshman Nathan Osborn shot a 75 to finish as the meet runner up. Osborn also was named the conference’s golfer of the year.

Arcanum senior Conner Pohl fired a 76 for the round and finished third overall in the meet. Covington senior Levi Winn placed fourth with a 78, and Arcanum senior Justin Hoke finished fifth overall with a 79.

Along with Pohl and Hoke, Arcanum junior Steven Vanatta shot an 85, senior Sam Artz shot a 91, senior Hayden Westfall shot a 91, and senior Nate Kubik shot a 97.

Sophomore Noah Koffer led Franklin Monroe with a round of 86. Also for the Jets, sophomore Jereym Bridenbaugh shot an 88, junior Hunter Rich shot a 91, senior Bradey Hesler shot a 92, sophomore Levi Altic shot a 98, and sophomore Bryce Filburn shot a 104.

Senior Tyler VanWinkle led Tri-Village with a round of 84. Also for the Patriots, senior Brett Boyter shot an 89, senior Luke Wheeler shot a 96, freshman Gage Hileman shot a 97, senior Brandon Peters shot a 98, and senior Knox Morris shot a 100.

Senior Joe Teeter led Mississinawa Valley with a 92. Also for the Blackhawks, senior Josh Rehmert shot a 93, freshman Trent Collins shot a 107, and freshman Kyler Guillozet shot a 112.

Junior Lane Clark led Ansonia with a round of 98. Also for the Tigers, senior Logan Miller shot a 101, senior John Fischer shot a 105, senior Trent Rader shot a 115, freshman Connor Lee shot a 137, and junior Zac Lengenecker shot a 149.

Bradford junior Alex Swabb shot an 88 for the 18-hole round.
