Greenville girls golf team finishes 2nd in GWOC North

ARCANUM – The Greenville girls golf team finished ninth overall in the Greater Western Ohio Conference and second in the GWOC North at the league’s postseason meet on Wednesday at Beechwood Golf Course.

Greenville shot a 431 in the conference meet to finish behind Troy, who shot a 384 and finished fourth overall, in the GWOC North standings. The Lady Wave beat Vandalia-Butler, who shot a 441 to finish 10th overall, and Piqua, who shot a 465 to finish 12th overall.

Greenville improved from the preseason meet when the Lady Wave shot a 482 to finish 10th overall and third in the GWOC North.

Senior Casey Mortensen led Greenville with an 18-hole round of 95 in the postseason meet. Also for the Lady Wave, freshman Jada Garland shot a 100, freshman Saki Nakamura shot a 117, sophomore Brianna Fourman shot a 119, senior Emily Fulton shot a 121, and sophomore Ashley Karns shot a 140.

Centerville won the GWOC tournament with a score of 303. Springboro was second with a 342, Lebanon was third with a 375, Troy was fourth with its 384, Miamisburg finished fifth with a 389, Beavercreek was sixth with a 405, Fairmont finished seventh with a 419, Northmont was eighth with a 424, Greenville finished ninth with its 431, Butler was 10th with its 441, Wayne finished 11th with a 460, Piqua was 12th with its 465, and West Carollton was 13th with its 499.

Fairborn, Springfield and Xenia each had golfers compete but didn’t have enough players to record a team score. Sidney and Trotwood-Madison didn’t compete in the meet.

Springboro senior Maddie Durbin was the medalist for the meet as she shot a one-under-par 71. Centerville senior Esha Kulkarni finished second with a 74, Centerville senior Madison Wolters and Centerville freshman Marissa Wenzler tied for third with a 75, and Centerville freshman Kayla Ramsey was fifth with a 79.

Troy senior LeeAnn Black led all GWOC North golfers with a round of 85. Greenville’s Mortensen was second in the GWOC North with her 95, Troy senior Hannah Wright was third with a 96, Butler sophomore Kaitlyn Jackson was fourth with a 99, and Greenville’s Garland and Troy senior Natalie Hesson tied for fifth as they both shot a 100.
