Maddie Covault leads Versailles girls golf team to MAC title

CELINA – Versailles senior Maddie Covault won the individual championship and the Lady Tigers won the team championship at the Midwest Athletic Conference girls golf meet on Saturday at the Mercer County Elks Golf Club.

Versailles shot a 366 as a team to win the MAC tournament. St. Henry shot a 382 to finish second, Minster shot a 383 to finish third, Fort Recovery shot a 429 to finish fourth, New Bremen shot a 460 to finish fifth, Marion Local shot a 461 to finish sixth, Parkway shot a 481 to finish seventh, and Coldwater shot a 543 to finish eighth in the tournament.

Versailles, St. Henry and Minster all entered the conference tournament with 6-1 conference records during the regular season. But with its first place finish in the tournament, Versailles won the 2015 league title as well.

Covault shot an 18-hole round of 80 on the par-72 course to win the individual MAC championship by four strokes over Minster’s Alli Fischer. Covault also edged Fischer for the MAC girls golfer of the year honors.

To go along with Covault’s 80, Versailles’ Lauren Heitkamp and Jorja Pothast both shot a round of 93 and tied for fourth overall. Also for the Lady Tigers, Lauren Durham shot a 100, Morgan Heitkamp shot a 108, and Morgan Barlage shot a 116.
