ST. HENRY – The Versailles Tigers dropped their second straight game in the Midwest Athletic Conference Friday night, this one 20-6.

The Redskins of St. Henry used an early miscue to take a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter. The Redskins scored again and took a 13-0 lead into halftime.

On the Tigers’ first possession the wind took any passing opportunities away, and the Tigers were forced to punt. A mishandled snap allowed the Redskins to take over on the 1-yard line. The Redskins took advantage scoring on a run by Jesse Niekamp.

Both teams struggled offensively for most of the game, but St. Henry took advantage of field position. Mitchell Stammen scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

The Tigers struggled mightily in the first half but were able to get the offense going in the second half. Collin Peters scored late in the third quarter on a 4-yard run. The Tigers elected to go for two but were stopped short.

The Tigers were not out, and the defense and weather were keeping the St. Henry offense in check.

In the fourth quarter the Tigers had a chance to score but were stopped short on a fourth down play at the Redskin 12-yard line. The Redskins were backed up to the 8-yard line when Stammen went 92 yards up the gut to seal the win.

Both teams struggled to get any offense going on the night. The Tigers held the Redskins to three first downs in the game but a short field and the 92-yard run sealed the Tigers fate.

Versailles fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the MAC with the loss while St. Henry improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the MAC.

Versailles will return to action on Friday on the road against winless Parkway.
