Prep Roundup: Versailles boys, girls third at MAC cross country meet

COLDWATER – Versailles captured third place as a team in both the boys and girls races at the Midwest Athletic Conference cross country meet on Saturday at Coldwater.

The boys totaled 86 points as a team to place third behind first-place Minster (32) and runner-up Parkway (62). The Tigers placed all seven runners in the top 20 and were led by Brooks Blakeley, who finished fifth overall as an individual in a time of 17 minutes, 14.78 seconds. He was followed by Stuart Baltes (17:47.97) in 12th place, Jack Gehret (18:48.44) in 21st place, Matt Cromwell (18:51.53) in 23rd place, Noah Barga (18:52.22) in 25th place, Jarrett Petitjean (18:53.28) in 26th place and Evan VanSkyock (18:55.88) in 28th place.

The rest of the boys team standings were St. Henry (125) in fourth place, Coldwater (137) in fifth place, Fort Recovery (168) in sixth place, New Bremen (170) in seventh place, Marion Local (198) in eighth place, Delphos St. John’s (206) in ninth place and New Knoxville (286) in 10th place.

In the girls race, Versailles again came in third as a team with 93 points. The Tigers placed four runners in the top 30 led by Madelyn Holzapfel, who finished in 13th place in a time of 20:38.72. Liz Watren (20:53.18) was 15th followed by Maria Mangen (21:04.03) in 19th place and Kara Spitzer (21;27.78) in 23rd place. The other competitors for VHS were Lauren Menke (22:00.06) in 33rd place, Delaney Barga (22:01.31) in 35th place and Kennedy McEldowney (22:13.25) in 40th place.

The girls team champion was Minster (19 points) followed by Coldwater (80) in second place. Versailles was third followed by Fort Recovery (111) in fourth place, Delphos St. John’s (147) in fifth place, St. Henry (148) in sixth place, New Bremen (172) in seventh place, Marion Local (201) in eighth place, Parkway (254) in ninth place and New Knoxville (326) in 10th place.
