ST. HENRY – Cooper Farms held its 12th annual Turkey Trot 5K run/walk on Saturday. The event brought out more than 200 runners and walkers to complete the 3.1 mile course.

This year’s event raised approximately $2,500. Again, Cooper Farms donated all proceeds to State of the Heart Hospice, who it has paired with for the event since 2007.

First place for female participants was Rachel Kahler (Dayton) with a time of 21:30.4. Second place female was Kimberly Meyer (New Knoxville) with a time of 23:03.7 and third place female was Jackie Kemper (Osgood) crossing the finish line in 23:04.1.

First place for male participants was Cele Gonzalez (St. Henry) with a time of 18:48.6. Second place male was Dean Oakley (Lakeview) with a time of 19:13.8 and third place male was Tony Heitkamp clocking in at 19:57.2.

For the second year in a row, there was something noticeably different about some of the participants running the race. Trent Kline, Matt Shindeldecker, Ron Winhoven, Bo Maus, Eric Sutter and Shawn Stein each carried a flag for the entire course of the race to honor fallen heroes.

The runners worked with Flags 4 Fallen, a volunteer team that honors fallen heroes at races of all sizes around the nation.

The fallen heroes honored were Sgt. Andre Booker, Cpl. Stephen Sockalosky, SPC Jordan Schumann, Staff Sgt. Matthew Ammerman, Sgt. Ricardo Diaz and Capt. William Dubos.
