Versailles’ Joe Spitzer wins MAC cross country championship

COLDWATER – Versailles’ Joe Spitzer won the Midwest Athletic Conference boys cross country championship on Thursday at Coldwater.

Joe Spitzer finished the race with a time of 16:31.43, beating Minster’s Ben Butler by more than two seconds for the conference championship.

As a team the Versailles boys finished fourth out of nine teams in the MAC while the Versailles girls finished second out of eight teams.

Minster, which had the first five finishers and seven of the top eight, won the high school girls meet. Following runner up Versailles, St. Henry finished third, New Bremen finished fourth, Coldwater finished fifth, Fort Recovery finished sixth, Marion Local finished seventh, and Delphos St. John’s finished eighth.

Kara Spitzer led the Versailles girls as she finished 10th overall with a time of 20:17.99. Also for the Lady Tigers, Liz Watren finished 15th in 20:32.58, Brynna Blakeley finished 17th in 20:39.20, Kenia McEldowney finished 21st in 20:46.62, Tori Schulze finished 23rd in 20:58.99, Hannah Rose finished 28th in 21:11.34, Kara Langenkamp finished 36th in 21:38.99, Dana Rose finished 38th in 21:46.46, Madison Grilliot finished 41st in 21:55.71, Colleen Gehret finished 43rd in 21:57.78, Kari Magen finished 49th in 22:18.34, Heather Albers finished 51st in 22:34.62, Ashlyn Cordonnier finished 56th in 22:46.96, Skyler Clune finished 67th in 23:18.02, Mallory Keiser finished 76th in 23:59.58, Abbey Marshal finished 80th in 24:07.27, Lydia Wood finished 89th in 24:55.58, Amber Barga finished 93rd in 25:02.55, Hallie Mills finished 104th in 26:06.27, Kayla Bruns finished 115th in 27:14.34, Janelle Hoelscher finished 120th in 27:52.54, Nicole Gower finished 131st in 29:46.37, Sarah Cordonnier finished 135th in 30:35.92, Kristen Gower finished 137th in 30:56.00, and Elizabeth Didier finished 141st in 34:38.00.

Minster’s Kaci Bornhorst won the girls race, which included 141 runners, with a time of 18:56.40.

Minster won the high school boys race while New Bremen finished second, St. Henry finished third, Versailles finished fourth, Parkway finished fifth, Marion Local finished sixth, St. John’s finished seventh, Coldwater finished eighth, and Fort Recovery finished ninth.

The Versailles junior high girls finished third out of eight teams, and the Versailles junior high boys finished fourth out of five teams. Minster won both junior high team titles to sweep the MAC team championships.
