Versailles football team loses to No. 1 ranked Coldwater

VERSAILLES – The Coldwater Cavaliers proved why they are the No. 1 ranked team in Division V Friday night against Versailles.

The Cavaliers used big plays and a punishing defense to take down the Tigers 44-7 Friday night. The Tigers only managed to gain 68 yards in total offense.

The Cavaliers wasted little time jumping out to a 22-0 lead before the Tigers knew what hit them.

“Coldwater definitely got a bunch of athletes,” Versailles football coach Adam Miller said. “We knew coming into this game it was going to be an uphill battle.”

The Tiger defense gave up several big plays, allowing the Cavaliers to build the lead.

The Tigers were able to score late in the first half. Kyle Subler scored on a 1-yard run with: 14 seconds left in the half. The Tigers were aided by an unsportsmanlike conduct call. The Tigers had a little momentum going into halftime.

The Cavaliers took the second half kickoff and extinguished any hope the Tigers had. A 17 yard-touchdown pass had the Tigers down 28-7 early in the third quarter.

The Cavaliers scored two more touchdowns and closed out the scoring with a safety with one minute left in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers do not get any breathing room as they travel to Marion Local Friday night. The Flyers had their long winning streak snapped last week by Coldwater but started a new one with a win Friday over Fort Recovery.
