Clayton Murphy sets world record in 800 meters

New Madison native and Tri-Village graduate Clayton Murphy recently set a flat-track world record in the 800 meters at the Camel City Elite Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Murphy captured the 800-meter title breaking Mark Everett’s 1:46.28 flat-track world record from 1990 in a 2019 world-leading time of 1:45.92.

The former University of Akron All-American and 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist also competed in the New York Road Runners Wanamaker Mile at the NYRR Millrose Games in New York City on Saturday, Feb. 9. he placed third with a time of 3:53.3.

Versailles graduate Sam Prakel also competed in the NYRR Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games and finished in 10th place with a time of 3:59.36.
