On Thursday, August 22, 2019, The Great Darke County Fair will host 11 races, highlighted by the $50,000 Gene Riegle Memorial Open Pace and the $25,000 Arnie Almahurst Open Trot. In addition, there are two divisions of the Dr. H.M. Parshall Futurity for 2 Yr Old Pacers, one division for 3 Yr Old Trotters, the Annie Oakley Shootout Spring Haven Farm Ladies Driving Series event, the Free For All Marvin Godown Memorial and four overnight events. Entries can be viewed here: https://racing.ustrotting.com/default.aspx

The Gene Riegle Memorial Open Pace features 6 strong competitors, who, when combined, have a total of 168 career wins, total career purse earnings of $3,418,415 and lifetime marks that range from 1:47.2 to 1:50.2.

The Ron Burke trainee and World Champion, Dancin Yankee, heads the field of six from the rail position and seeks his 79th career win. If Dancin Yankee were to win on Thursday, he would be just shy of the $2 million mark for career purse earnings.

The $25,000 Arnie Almahurst Open Trot features a field of 7, including Tioga Downs shipper Mission Accepted for trainer Ron Burke, Chicago invader Pine Dream for trainer Merv Chupp and local favorite No Whip Chip for trainer Meredith Noble.

Just a reminder that Rod “Sunglasses” Allums, Jr from NAHU will be doing a live broadcast Thursday night. Pacey “The Wizard” Mindlin will be in the grandstands doling out more winning picks to the fans and Hall of Famers Bob “Hollywood” Heyden and Roger “The Voice” Huston will be in attendance for handicapping analysis, interviews and more.

We will be celebrating the evening with our annual souvenir Gene Riegle Memorial glass and Roger Huston will be doing a book signing to promote his latest book “THE VOICE: THE UNPARALLELED LIFE OF ROGER HUSTON” in the barn area before the races and in the grandstands during the races.

The remaining racing schedule is as follows:

Wednesday Night, August 21, 2019 – Post Time 7:30 P.M.

Thursday Night, August 22, 2019 – Post Time 5:30 P.M.

We hope to see you at The Great Darke Co. Fair!
