Ansonia girls basketball team defeats Franklin Monroe

ANSONIA – The Ansonia girls basketball team beat Franklin Monroe 42-31 in a Cross County Conference game on Tuesday.

Ansonia jumped out to a 10-4 first quarter lead and expanded its lead to 27-6 at halftime. Franklin Monroe cut into its deficit in the third quarter, making it 35-22, en route to the 42-31 Ansonia victory.

Brooke Neal led Ansonia with a game-high 14 points in the win, which included three 3-pointers. Also for the Lady Tigers, Abby Helmke scored eight points, Jailyn Thwaits scored eight, Bailey Stammen scored seven, Stefani Garrett scored four, and Aliya Barga scored one.

Carrie Baker led Franklin Monroe with 11 points. Also for the Lady Jets, Tara Goubeaux scored seven points, Hannah Eley scored six, Kinsey Goins scored five, and Allyson Masterson scored two.

Ansonia improved to 2-1 with the win while Franklin Monroe fell to 0-3.
