VERSAILLES – The Versailles boys bowling team traveled to Coldwater on Nov. 21 to bowl against the Wapakoneta Redskins.

“Wapakoneta is a defending state champion team with six returning bowlers so we knew it would be a tough match,” Versailles coach Tyler Phlipot said.

The Tigers came home with their first season loss, 2,847-2,386. High game bowlers this week were Brody Hyre (199), Alex Groff (191), Kyle Cotner (179) and Jacob Wening (171). Wapakoneta had five bowlers throwing above a 200 average, making it very difficult to beat.

On Saturday the Tigers then traveled to Woodcrest Lanes in Union City to bowl against the Russia Raiders.

“The lanes were very dry for the second shift so a lot of adjustments had to be made,” Coach Phlipot said. “Some bowlers were even throwing their spare ball for their first roll.”

The boys were able to add on a second victory to their record, winning 2,287-1,895. High game went to Luke Shellhaas (200). Also, bowling well for the Tigers were Alex Groff (180), Jacob Wening (167) and Brody Hyre (165).

“We are still looking for a fifth teammate to step up and bowl a higher average,” Coach Phlipot said. “We need to start jiving together as a team in bakers.”

The Tigers take on Marion Local on Dec. 12 in New Bremen.
