PITSBURG – Franklin Monroe’s Chloe Peters signed to continue her education while playing volleyball for the Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) Lady Cougars volleyball program.

“I’m so excited for Chloe that she has been given the opportunity to play volleyball at the next level,” said Franklin Monroe volleyball coach Angie Filbrun. “She has worked so hard to get where she is at and I am so proud of her.”

Peters, the daughter of Arlan and Beck Peters plans to study Elementary Education and Elementary Intervention with a goal of becoming a Special Education teacher.

“I went there with my parents and my first visit I was – wow this is the whole package,” said Peters. “I really wanted a school with Christian based beliefs. I loved every single person I talked to and everyone was so nice and helpful.”

“The major there was perfect for me so when I left that day I was like, this is perfect,” Peters noted. “With volleyball added on top of it that it would be amazing. I got to talk to the athletic director and she gave my information to the coach and here we are today.”

Peters did not go through a long recruiting process as many high school athletes do.

“I never really thought I was good enough to play in college,” stated Peters. “Coach Filbrun told me I should check Mount Vernon out even if I wasn’t looking at volleyball,”

“I would not be anywhere near where I am today without Coach Filbrun and all the coaches I’ve had throughout the years and my teammates,” Peters said. “They are the ones who got me this far and they have been great. I am glad to call them my friends because they built me up and always supported me in everything I do – and it’s because of them.”

“Chloe will take her volleyball skills with her but more than that she will be a positive role model and a great leader for her new team,” Coach Filbrun said. “MVNU is blessed to have her. I look forward to watching her play soon!”

The Lady Cougars are coming off a 25-11 season and look to do even better in 2020-2021.

“Last year they were fourth in the conference and they are looking to be at the top this year, so they did pretty well last year,” Peters said. “I think this coming year is going to be even better.”

“I’m most likely going to be a defensive specialist or back row player,” Peters said of where she sees herself fitting in at Mount Vernon. “I’m 5’6-1/2” – not tall for college to play the front row. I have enjoyed that role in high school, so I’m excited for that.”

MVNU is a member of the Crossroads League including Bethel University, Goshen College, Grace College, Huntington University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Marian University, Spring Arbor University, Taylor University and the University of Saint Francis.

Peters took time to thank the many that have been a large part of her Franklin Monroe experience.

“First and foremost all the glory to God because I wouldn’t have this opportunity if it wasn’t for Him and I am super thankful for what He has blessed me with,” Peters said. “Second, I thank my parents and my brothers, Landon and Cade for always being there for me and supporting me in everything I do.”

“All of my coaches and teammates and my teachers and classmates because they have all been there for me and pushed me to be the best I could be” added Peters. “I am so thankful to have grown up in the Franklin Monroe community and everything they have done for me.”

“I’m so excited for her,” concluded Coach Filbrun. “She’s one amazing young lady!”
