UNION CITY – The Mississinawa Valley GirlsBasketball Team stepped onto their home floor for the last time. Even though they recognized their senior players earlier in the season, the emotions of playing your last game still exist, as the girls dropped a 56-48 non-conference game to Houston.
Houston would jump out to a 7-0 lead before Mississinawa got on the board with a couple free throws by Taylor Stachler. Stachler scored 7 points and Mattie Hiestand 4 and Alison Byram 2 to tie the game at 13 with Houston after one quarter of play.
The offense would go cold in the 2nd quarter but the game remained close until a few costly turnovers and fouls at the end of the half allowed Houston to go up 28-20.
The Hawks caught fire behind the arch in the 3rd quarter with Mattie Hiestand scoring 10 points and Brenna Price 7 for an 18 point quarter to help inch MV closer trailing 42-38.
In the final stanza Mississinawa shots once again weren’t falling and Houston was able to hang on to record a 56-48 victory.
“The seniors playing their last game were Ellie Reichard, Taylor Stachler, Leah and Emily Scholland they will be missed next year.
The girls season ended on Saturday with a post season tournament game loss to the AP #1 DIV team in the state Fort Loramie.
Mississinawa finished the year with a 4-18 overall record and 3-9 in the Cross County Conference.
