VANDALIA – On Friday the Greenville Green Wave traveled to Vandalia for a Greater Western Ohio Conference North division showdown.
The Green Wave came into the game still undefeated and hoped to stay perfect against the Aviators. Both teams battled hard, with the Aviators leading the Wave at halftime. Greenville would overcome the deficit in the second half and eventually defeat the Aviators 51-47.
This win moved Greenville to 2-0 in the division and 3-1 overall. The Wave are tied with Trotwood-Madison for the GWOC North lead.
The first half opened fast for both teams with both teams showing great athleticism and physicality on both ends of the floor. The lead changed hands often in the first half with neither team distinguishing themselves. Butler led the Green Wave 23 -22 in the opening half with Aaron Rich and Isaiah Gable scoring 20 of Greenville’s 22 points.
The second half was much like the first, with both teams showing success on both ends of the floor. Greenville tied the game early in the second half and rode that momentum to a double-digit lead near the end of the third quarter.
Devin Hendrix caught fire in the second half for the Wave as Greenville stretched its lead. The Aviators fought back though, narrowing the Greenville lead to three with a minute remaining. After a turnover and foul by Butler, Greenville stretched its lead to four at the foul line. The Wave eventually would hold off the Aviators by a final score of 51-47.
Leading Scorers for the Green Wave were Isaiah Gable with 21 and Aaron Rich with 18 followed by Peter Pandy and Devin Hendrix with six each.
