Officers arrest couple after a 4-hour standoff

UNION CITY – The Union City Ohio Police Department along with assistance from the Union City Indiana Police Department responded to 803 E. Central Street in attempts to serve a felony warrant on Peter Cheadle.

Upon arrival officers spoke with a witness who stated that they observed Cheadle enter into the trailer at the location. Officer knocked on the door and the occupants refused to answer. The officers observed a female inside of the trailer however she refused to answer the door.

Officers than began the process of applying for a search warrant to enter into the trailer and apprehend Cheadle. After approximately 4-hours, and several commands, Cheadle exited out of the trailer and was taken into custody.

Cheadle had an active warrant out of the Darke County Common Pleas Court for Felony Domestic Violence, stemming from an incident that occurred at the same location on Dec. 13, 2015. Cheadle was taken into custody without incident.

Also arrested was Jonnie Edwards, who was the leasee of the trailer in which Cheadle was refusing to exit. Edwards admitted to knowing that Cheadle had an active warrant and admitted to housing Cheadle in her trailer so that he would not be arrested.

Edwards was booked on the charge of Obstructing Justice, a felony of the 5th degree. Cheadle was booked on his Grand Jury Indictment for Felony Domestic Violence. Cheadle and Edwards are both being held in the Darke County Sheriff’s Jail without bond.

The Union City Police Department is committed to taking criminals off of the street and is committed to taking those person(s) responsible for aiding a felon, by preventing officers from taking the felon into custody.
