GREENVILLE — A New Paris man will forfeit a firearm and spend 21 months in prison after sentencing in Darke County Common Pleas Court on Monday.

Jason L. Hunt, 26, went before Judge Jonathan P. Hein on an original four-count indictment – three counts aggravated drug trafficking, all third-degree felonies, and having weapons under a disability,

Hunt apologized for his actions, stating he was willing to accept whatever sentence he was given. He proceeded to plead guilty to a charge of aggravated trafficking with a firearm specification. As part of a plea agreement, three indictments were dismissed.

“Risk of recidivism is likely,” said Hein, noting the defendant’s history included substance abuse and a prior prison sentence. “Sometimes that’s a deterrent, other times it’s just a holding pattern until the next felony.”

Hunt was sentenced to 12 months for the firearm specification and nine months for aggravated trafficking. He must pay $450 in restitution and court costs.

Danny N. Drake, 50, of Greenville, also went before Judge Hein for a change of plea. He was originally charged with driving under the influence, a third-degree felony, and failure to reinstate, a first-degree misdemeanor.

As part of the plea agreement, Drake gave a guilty plea to driving under the influence with the second count dismissed. He faces a minimum 120 days to a maximum 36 months incarceration and up to a $10,000 fine.

According to Judge Hein, the conduct transpired on April 19, and a similar charge is pending in Montgomery County.

Sentencing is slated for Oct. 7.
