ANSONIA – The Darke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Saturday evening shooting that has left an area woman hospitalized after being airlifted to a Miami Valley Hospital.
At approximately 8:09 p.m., the Darke County Sheriff’s Department and the Greenville Police Department responded along with Ansonia Fire and Rescue and CareFlight to 9757 Beam Road in reference to a female with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation into the incident has revealed that during a heated altercation between 26-year-old Devan Dickey and 60-year-old Karen Reier, both of Ansonia, Reier pointed a gun at Dickey shooting her in the chest.
Devan Dickey was treated on the scene by Ansonia Rescue for what was described as “serious life-threatening injuries”. She was immediately evacuated from the scene, for safety reasons, to a landing zone established outside of Ansonia to await the arrival of CareFlight.
Dickey was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital where her condition is listed as “Stable”.
Karen Reier was taken into custody by deputies and transported to the Darke County Criminal Justice Center where she was booked in on charges of Felonious Assualt.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Department.
